**As of November 9, 2009, please find me at my new home below.**

Some posts are pw protected, so for the super secret decoder pen....ahem... code, please email me at kimbosue2 AT hotmail DOT com.

This blog will remain open. The link is still tied to lots of IF blogs, groups, and websites. I hope someone can read through my journey and find hope and strength and know that there is a light at the end of the IF tunnel. Prayer is the key! I love all my IF girlies I met along the way, and I hope to keep your friendships going forward during this next chapter of Mommyhood. I hope to see you there!

Updates & Questions

The reunion was pretty fun. Dean was sad there wasn't a bigger band representation. But let me tell you, I hope I look as good as Dean does 35 years after graduation! MAN! some of those old dudes looked like they were pushing 70, not 53!! Some were balding, some totally gray and some totally white. Even some with canes and/or walking way slow due to bad knees. I am just relieved no one asked me where I was in 1973!! Can we say twinkle in my Daddy's eye??? :-)

I had my 11 week appointment yesterday. Peanut is growing right on schedule. And man, is he active! He was doing somersaults when they were trying to get his picture - which won't be available until the end of the week. The laptop in the office is one Dean's company was getting rid of, but they half loaded a system on it, so basically all it can do is get on the web. It doesn't have any software that I could use to scan. :-( (Sorry Cindy!) But it is the cutest pic ever. Both arms are up in the air. Like saying, "TADA! Look at me Mom!"

Questions

  1. Did you find out the gender of your baby before it was born? If so why, or why not?
  2. Did you get any type of genetic testing done before - i.e. Down's Syndrome, Trisomy 18, etc?

We have been weighing the Pros and Cons of finding out the gender or not. Here's a few:

Pros to find out
Monogrammed stuff
Easier to decorate nursery
Cuter boy/girl specific clothes

Cons to not find out
More difficult to decorate nursery
Lots of green and yellow stuff
Mom is troubled as to what to buy (as others may be)
Can't put his/her name in the nursery as of yet
No cutie monogrammed stuff until after birth (I LOVE monogrammed stuff!)

Pros to not find out
Friends will buy things we really need since they can't buy something cutie (thanks Allison)
An extra special surprise at the end of this long 9 month journey

Cons to find out
none I can think of

Thoughts? Comments? Why did you want to find out/not find out what you were having??

9 nice things to say...:

It's funny, I thought the women aged far better than the men at my 20th high school reunion. You are so cute, a twinkle in Daddy's eye! Can't wait to see the U/S picture of your cheering baby.
Re.your questions:
1. No, we did not find out the gender with either son because we did want to be suprised. I feel there are so few suprises in the world, but I'm not the monogram junkie you are!
2. I had blood work screening and high level U/S to check for birth defects w/first son, I was 33 y/o when I delivered him, so not high risk or advanced maternal age. (that phrase cracks me up).
I was 36 y/o with the youngest son and I had an amniocentesis because of my age.
BTW, they have really cute "neutral" baby clothes in newborn sizes which the babies wear like twice. So you will have plenty of time to get cute stuff (monogrammed too!) whatever you and Dean decide.
Thank you also for the birthday greetings. I hope you have a great day!

I can't wait to see the pic, it sounds so cute!

I think we are finding out the gender, but I'm thinking about not revealing it to anyone until at the shower. That way like you said, I hopefully get most stuff that I need and not a bunch of out fits.

Oh and I forgot to say. DH and I are still debating the blood work they do for early testing. He says no cause it wouldn't change anything, I say yes because if I need to prepare for special needs I'd like to know ahead of time.

Yep, that is why we don't want to do the testing either. It's not going to matter the outcome either way. This is our baby and we're having it no matter what.

If I had tried as hard as you guys I would want to know every bit of information I could, including sex. OTOH, it's not written anywhere that little girls can't wear blue onesies...Is that answer ambiguous enough for you?

We found out with Aaron because I was impatient. With this one we are on the fence. On one hand, the surprise is awesome, on the other hand it's easier to get a 4 year old excited about being a big brother if we have an actual name to go with the baby.

I just did my alpha fetal protein test. It's just a bit of blood and a good indicator. Not that it would change anything, but nice to know if we need to be prepared.

1. Yes. I did find out. I'm a planner and liked to have 2 BIG days. The first being the big u/s and the second the birth. I don't think knowing the gender detracted from the miracle of birth. Also, I do NOT like gender nuetral things. I liked people knowing what sex my baby was when we were in public.

2. Yes. I had the screening. When it came back as an increased risk, I also had the CVS. Knowledge is power. I don't want to be surprised with anything like that at birth.

I know me, and if I ever get that far, I'll be wanting to know ASAP! I have no patience.

Plus... the decorating!

Just sayin'!
